Glass Art as a Career

www.wanganui.com
Wanganui offers those who chose to live here long term, a great place for families. We have one of the most temperate climates of any city in the world, a safe environment, superior yet affordable housing, quality education choices and a comprehensive healthcare service.

Wanganui is an ideal place to bring up children. Small enough to develop a real ‘neighbourhood’ approach yet large enough to provide most of the usual attractions for the young (and not so young). The Wanganui District Council’s key focus is on making Wanganui as family friendly as possible and is committed to playing direct leadership role in the future of the District.

Arts, Glass & Culture
Wanganui has a vibrant talented artistic community. Galleries and studios feature glass, painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles and indigenous arts and crafts.

Studio artists tucked away in many of the heritage buildings are worth seeking out.

The i-Site Wanganui Visitor Centre has a huge range of information on arts, glass and culture including the Arts Trail Brochure which shows the extensive range of styles and media of our artists and our two nationally renowned institutions, the Sarjeant Gallery and the Wanganui Regional Museum.

River, lake and sea

As the city is located on the Whanganui River, all ages can enjoy the opportunities offered including fishing, water skiing and rowing.

Also located in Wanganui is the beautiful Virginia Lake and gardens which provide an opportunity to unwind and enjoy the scenery, take a number of walks and feed the ducks. Other attractions at the Lake include the Winter Gardens, a bird aviary and a fountain.

For the avid fisherman, the magnificent coast offers a choice of surf cast fishing for snapper, cod, kahawai whilst sea fishing has a greater range including grouper, snapper, terakihi, blue cod and squid.
